I – How to build a go-cart?

Remember that there are different forms of go-carts: the fun go-carts, the concession go-carts and the racing go-carts.

Fun go-carts are designed for kids and can be purchased in department stores. Concession go-carts are like mini golf carts – these are the ones used in parks.

Go-carts are made up of lightweight materials and metals and revved up by powerful engines. To build one, make sure that you concentrate on the safety features above anything else. Read up on websites that teach you how to build go-carts. Be prepared with all the costs.

But if you are seriously getting into racing go-carts, then buy a go-cart that knows serious fun and excitement.

Tracks come in different designs and sizes so make sure that you race along a track that strikes your fancy.

4. Be careful when you drive.

Go-cart racing is risky so you must practice safety all the times. Don't race unless you're already good enough, or your trainer says so.

What is required of you is to wear driving suits and leathers, helmets and gloves. Your ankles must also be fully covered by the appropriate racing shoes.

6. Join racing go-cart clubs.

III – How to join go-cart racing competitions?

There are go-cart racing schools that enable you to compete at the end of the course. Thrill seekers attend to these classes for a once-in-a-lifetime adrenaline overdrive!

Sprint racing is a form of go-cart racing with tracks that run from quarter mile to half a mile in length. Sprint go-carts are versatile that you can run them in any kind of tracks. They have a speed of 40-80 MPH.

Another type of go-cart racing is the oval racing which makes use of narrower tracks and run up to ten miles. Oval go-carts can speed along dirt, asphalt courses, but never on road courses.

There are also large scale go-cart racing competitions like the Enduro, at0tended by amateurs and professionals alike. In Florida, Nevada, Connecticut and other states, go-cart racing events are wild attractions as they are held in long-distance tracks. Races can even go as long as eight hours.

Go cart racing parts could be purchased in automobiles stores and other heavy equipment specializing in sports cars. These parts could range in prices and in quality, but all is fair in go cart racing.

It is a job in maintaining go cart racing parts. So to be able to know whether or not your go cart parts are operating accurately, you should know the basic function of each of the go cart parts.

To simplify the go cart parts, there are two categories you should identify. The first group comprises of the outside parts. These are the parts which are visibly seen when standing outside of the go cart. The second group consists of the inside parts. These racing go cart parts involve all of the parts that could not be visibly seen from outside of the go cart.

Outside parts consists of the tires, nuts, bolts, fasteners, and the framework, which is also called the go cart chassis.

1) The tires. The tires are the go cart racing part which provides the finest traction and downright control when running a curve. It solely depends on the tires when you are experimenting on different types of locations where severe speed and accurate braking is needed.

* NOTE: Always make sure that the pressure is accurate from the amount it needs.

2) Nuts, bolts and fasteners. These tools are used to tighten the tires of the go cart. If either of these is loose when go cart racing, accidents could occur.

* NOTE: Make tighter all the screws needed and always check if it is properly placed. Loose bolts cause materials to wear and tear more rapidly.

3) Framework of Chassis. This go cart racing part is the key to a great performance on the track. In purchasing your framework, consider the quality of turning of the chassis because it's most vital function is how well your go cart would turn from left to right.

Make sure to purchase the framework which is durable and flexible. Since the chassis is the most exposed of all go cart racing parts, it is advisable to upgrade or fix the framework yearly to prevent from further accidents. Also, think about purchasing accurate circuits for more flexibility of the go cart.

* NOTE: The variety of the surface you are go cart racing on should be a factor to consider in choosing your chassis. Various styles of frame react in a different way according to surface.

Inside parts consists of the engine, brakes, and steering system

1) Engine or motor. This is the life of the go cart. You will not be able to start racing if you have purchased has perfect spark plugs. Always maintain new spark plugs to ensure your engine is safe from heating.

*NOTE: Check if the motor of your go cart is running before racing. Test drive you go cart with low speed before dashing.

2) Brakes and brake petal. The brakes are responsible for the stopping of the go cart. With loose breaks, go cart riding would be dangerous and it could make your cart slide involuntarily.

* NOTE: Test the brakes out for leaks and that both sides of the caliper are working properly. This will ensure that your go cart would stop even if you are racing speedily.

3) Steering system. This go cart racing part guarantees that your vehicle could turn freely to the right and left. Without a maneuvering steering wheel, your go cart could go into any direction it wants without your control.

*NOTE: Ensure that if you steer your cart, it accurately turns the direction you want it to go. If not, try adjusting it for better precision.

Remember that the whole appearance of your go cart is important. Whether you are making a go cart on your own, or purchasing it on a store, you should know the basics in order not to get rip-off. Always strive for the quality of the go cart parts.

Purchasing parts for go cart racing could be a problem is you are not aware which are important for a safe go cart racing. Now that you have knowledge in basic go card parts and its functions, you could now enjoy racing without risks.

Let's straighten this off the bat. Go cart racing involves a great deal of physical ability.

Correct? Read on.

Go cart racing is not an old dad start sport. It is not even a new kids-on-the-block game. It is one of those you simply have to settle with because you cannot afford to drive the big toys.

Today, go cart racing is one of the coolest sport "on wheels" as claimed by Rob Lear, an expert on the racing tracks.

Next in line to its four-wheeled counterpart, go cart racing equally requires a high level of strength to sail over the racing tracks. And like any racing sports, go cart racing also requires a good hand-eye coordination and endurance to go through many laps of random pounding while struggling for position.

So, for those who have a need for speed, you have to know first how to head off by and start the go cart racing with a smooth flow. So here's what you have to do:

1. Look for your neighborhood Go Cart Racing track.

Before you head off and start pumping a heavy dose of adrenaline rush for any go cart racing yourself, try to be on the spectators' first. Try to watch the go cart races first and analyse how those experts do those things.

If you still have time for chit-chat, go out of your way and talk to some people who are in the race. It is a great way of finding people who are vying to sell their go carts or some go cart parts.

2. Buy your go cart.

It's a must that you buy your go cart first before you register for any go cart races available in your place. If you don't have enough money to get yourself a brand new go cart, you may settle for a used one. You may ask a couple or four drivers to the max and ask them the price of a second hand go cart. In this way, you will be able to assess how much you can afford a used go cart so that you can start your go cart racing at once.

Or, you may look for one on your local go cart track and find yourself a modified model. This can be very useful especially if you are just a newbie in the world go cart racing. The modified types are usually optimised for the limited situation.

There are, in fact, many ways how to obtain a go cart for your go cart racing. You can even find lots of them in many second hand stores.

However, the most important thing, when you are only still starting a career in go cart racing, is to look for a sponsor. Usually, it is the sponsor that does all the financial aspects of providing you the necessary equipments needed in go cart racing.

2. Look for a handy mechanic.

Go carts are not typical toys that you can assemble and fix without the skill of an expert. It is mechanical and it needs an expert mechanic so as to do the job. Though, it doesn't necessarily that you find someone who is professionally inclined. A member of your family, maybe even your dad, may do as long as they know something about mechanics.

But of you cannot get the services for free; opt for the sponsorship of your local mechanic shop. They are usually great sponsors for your go cart racing at the same time can provide you with enough mechanical skills that you need.

In fact, they will be the first persons who will help you and guide you once you start your go cart racing career. From them you will learn the rudiments of go cart racing, the skill you have to know, and best of all, how to take good care of your go cart.

3. Don't forget the insurance.

Like any racing activity, go cart racing can be very dangerous also. Accidents do happen, and it is always the unexpected that comes out. That is why it is best that you insure yourself and your go cart before anything happens to you.

Check your local insurance company if they have insurance policies for you as added protection while you're engaged in go cart racing. If not, you can find them at any go cart clubs and organizations.

So, now that you are ready to start your new found sports, bear in mind always the value of sportsmanship. Love for sports should not be an all out competition. It is with having fun that counts the most.

"Big things come in small packages."

This famous quotation is proven by the things we see around us. We have mini-discs that can store more information than a stack of CDs; we have cell phones that can single-handedly replace the telephone, radio, camera and computer; and we have go-karts.

Go-karts are miniature cars. It started with the development of a small engine back in 1956 by Art Ingles. The production of the car followed shortly after. There has been an explosion of the popularity of the go-kart back in the 50's, that's why the people decided to hold competitions involving these little machines.

Go-kart racing is just as fun and as entertaining as the big leagues of racing like NASCAR and F1, but with more than half the cost and size. Even though go-karts are considerably smaller and cheaper, it does not mean that the maintenance of its engine could be waived off.

Just like a lot of other things, if we want to keep the go-karts running efficiently, we need to spend time with its maintenance. Here are some useful tips that we need to keep in mind when keeping the go-kart's engine in check:

I. Clean air filters.

If we think about it, it's just practical to keep on cleaning and checking air filters every now and then. If the air filter is filled with dust and dirt, the ventilation of the machine won't work properly, and in effect, the machine won't run efficiently. If we keep the filters clean and that will also keep the engines clean.

II. Check the spark plugs.

Spark plugs are very important to the engine because without it, the engine will not run at all. Damaged, burned and dirty spark plugs, decrease engine efficiency and may cause engine damage. To prevent this, we should always clean the spark plugs and replace it immediately if it's already damaged.

III. Fuel and oil maintenance.

a. If you still haven't noticed, it is important for the go-kart to be clean if we want it running efficiently. Therefore, we should also use clean fuel. If we're going to put gas in, we should put unleaded gasoline only.

b. Oil should be checked regularly every 25 hours of use. What are we checking for? Basically, the oil level should be on the "positive" side of the dipstick. If the level goes negative, the oil should be replaced fully. Don't even try to re-use the oil to save money, because this will only lead to engine damage.

IV. LUBRICATE! LUBRICATE! LUBRICATE!

Lubrication is a necessity. Apart from keeping the kart clean, we should also lubricate its parts in order to enjoy smooth movement. Unlike the normal engines, the use of oil-based lubes are not recommended because these oil lubricants tend to attract dust and dirt that this will cause engine damage as well as the wear and tear of certain parts.

Instead of using oil-based lubes, we should use the graphite based lubricant sprays.

These parts need lubrication the most:

a. Drive chain. The drive chain needs to be lubricated before every use of the kart. This will ensure smoother runs for the engine.

b. Clutch. For better shifting, cleaning of the clutch is important. But regular lubrication of the clutch should also be done if we desire better results. Proper maintenance of the clutch will also extend its lifespan.

c. Brakes. We lubricate because we want to ride faster and smoother, but if we don't maintain the brake lines, it may cost us our lives. Clean and lubricate the breaks. Nothing is more important than the breaks, so make sure it's all clean and the parts are well lubricated.

Keep these four things in mind and you will surely have a smooth and fast ride in your kart. If you have dreams of winning go-kart competitions, these are the things you must know by heart.

We should also remember that if we are looking for ways to cut-down on the go-kart budget, make sure that the necessities like oil, fuel and lubrication are not compromised. If these are neglected, it may only lead to more expenses, or the destruction of the go-kart engine.

Go-karts may be small, but the responsibility of maintaining it is no joke. If we want our go-karts to go fast every time we ride it and we want it running smoothly, we should be ready to work on it a lot.

A go cart is usually driven by young children and teenagers. But these days, that is not the case anymore. Go cart racing has become a sport for all ages. Although you could not acquire a license for go cart racing and go cart racing in public areas would be illegal, many people are still involved with go cart racing.

This may be a sport for any ages, but go cart racing is not as harmless as you think. If you are about to give your child a vehicle for go cart racing, you should be informed in all the safety precautions. Read your go cart racing's manual and understand it.

If you haven't read the manual, here are basic guidelines for all interested in go cart racing.

1) Environment.

Since go cart racing is against the law, it could only be driven in your private lawn or space. Refrain from go cart racing in areas that you could possibly hit other vehicles, trees, or moving objects.

2) Check up.

Make sure that the oil and fuel level are exactly refilled. Adding of oil and gas should be done only if oil is necessary. Always remember to insect for leaks. Place the cap tightly after refilling gas or oil. Be sure to turn of the engine and wait for it to cool before refilling gas or oil. Gas leaks may cause fuel to burst into flames.

Testing your brakes is very important because if you do not have control of your vehicle, it could lead to major accidents. It is very dangerous to start go cart racing if your brakes are not functioning accurately.

For a safe go cart racing day, make sure to test out the condition of your tires. Check the pressure if it correctly set for a smooth ride to the course.

In checking the tension of the drive chain, make sure to lubricate if needed.

Always check smooth operation of throttle. Look for rusted or broken cable instruments. Do not go cart racing if cables are not yet fixed. Change the cable and connect it properly before continuing your go cart racing.

Make sure that the bolts, nuts and fasteners of your wheels are properly tightened in its place.

To be able to go cart racing without hassle, make sure that the steering wheel is operating properly. If it could turn without restraint, you could start go cart racing.

3) Safety Precautions.

Make sure that before speeding up for your go cart racing, you are wearing all the appropriate protective gear and clothing. A helmet is important because majority of go cart racing accidents are due head injuries.

4) Driving.

The first part of basic go cart racing is learning how to turn the vehicle. Turning maneuvers is important because the driver should be able to know how to modify the vehicle depending on his weight. He should know to how throttle to be able to slowly turn the go cart by using stable speed.

When the driver is faced by a situation where he is not able to turn his go cart, it may lead the frontal wheels to glide.

5) Exploring.

When you have learned the basics and you are now ready to go cart racing while experimenting different locations, you should still know what to do during worst scenarios.

Remember not to drive your go cart with elevated speed. In driving through slippery roads, make sure that the brakes are dry.

NOTE: Brakes are inefficient if it has been wet. This could cause fatal accidents.

6) Children.

Make sure that the child is physically competent in starting go cart racing. A kid with a weak heart may cause his heart to malfunction during high speed.

Before letting your child to go cart racing, limit the area in which he could drive. Establish boundaries where you could visibly see your child driving.

When the child is using the go cart for racing, never leave your child unattended. Make sure that there is always an adult to supervise the driving.

With these guidelines, accidents coming from go cart racing could be prevented. Any sport could be harmless, unless special attention and safety precautions are set and followed. Make sure that you follow them.

In the world of sports, everybody insist that it is also one way of investment. That is because you can never enjoy the sports that you love if you do not have the meant to enjoy it.

Take for instance the go cart racing. It may look as if it is really feasible at the same time really amusing. But the fact that racer wannabes have to spend some money on racing go cart parts, it only means one thing: there's nothing free in this world anymore.

Consequently, a tough sport like go cart racing obviously requires tough equipment and big investment on racing go cart parts.

For beginners, you may spend a lot more on racing go cart parts compared to those who are already established on the sports arena. Of course, it will cost newbies more because they have to get every racing go parts that have to be acquired.

Most experts estimated the preliminary racing go cart parts ranging from $500-$600. This primary racing go cart parts include the engine mounting plate, steering hoop, the frame, spindle brackets, tubes, tires, brake assembly, steering wheel, live axle assembly, wheels, pedals, and the seat. Though, this is not complete yet. You still have to get the engine (of course), chain guard, and the clutch. That would be an additional $300 on your budget.

If you are to look at it, the racing go cart parts resemble like that of the cars. And we all know that car parts and accessories really cost a lot, so that would go for most racing go cart parts also.

Normally, the se racing go cart parts are being sold at a package deal or in kits. You may find this very practical since you don't have to tediously shop for more racing go cart parts. However, these kits are still not complete. As mentioned, engines, clutches, and chain guards are being sold separately.

Moreover, most experts advised that it would be better to purchase racing go cart parts separately than in bundles. This means that you can have the option what brand would you go for or if you are in a tight budget; you can opt for those that are lower in price.

Nevertheless, one of the greatest advantage of buying racing go cart parts in bundles is that you never have to worry on assembling them one by one. Usually, kits of racing go cart parts comes with a manual that will tell you which items still needs welding. If you bought the parts separately, you really have to go to the machine shop and have them fixed by a welding machine.

Generally, racing go cart parts are available at your local go cart stores. But, since the proliferation of the Internet and online marketing, racing go cart parts are also available online.

In fact, there are many online businesses that cater exclusively on racing go cart parts and other go cart accessories. Most of the online sites can give you complete list of the needed racing go cart parts.

However, even if online sites provide a greater array of racing go cart parts plus the convenience of shopping around to look for more affordable prices, there are still many advantages that the traditional shops can offer.

1. Reliability.

With the traditional shops, you can always rely on its authenticity and accuracy because you can see for yourself the actual product being sold, whereas, online sites can only give you visual representations. In most cases, these items will look very different from the way you have seen the items online.

2. Customer service.

It is a well known fact that nothing can beat the goodness of customer service. That is only realistic with the traditional shops. The very fact that when you buy things, you don't only get the items you want to buy but also you build relationships with other people.

In the case of go carts, you can even learn more things about the sports just by talking to the people in the shop.

Indeed, go cart racing is an ultimate sports that can provide you with a lot of aspects in life. You get the satisfaction, the adrenaline rush, and increased socialization.

This goes to show that go cart racing are certainly more than meets the eye.

Go cart racing is a motoring sport for small, light, four wheeled vehicles. It is rapidly gaining popularity, especially amongst the young, since go carts can be assembled easily, and can prove to be a fun activity both on and off the tracks. The best go carts, however, cannot run without the best go cart racing tires.

Go cart racing, or karting, as the sport is known among enthusiasts, is like any other racing event. It can happen in rain or snow, sleet or sun, summer or shade, and anyone can participate. As a result, all components of a go cart must be in top shape, and able to withstand the tearing forces of speed as the go cart rushes through wind and to the finish.

Since go carts have to go at a speeds over a hundred miles per hour, the vehicle must be light and less prone to wind drag. Nearly all components of racing go carts are small, from the engine to the frame, from the clutch to the tires. Go car racing tires, especially, have to built not just for speed and durability, but for versatility in all kinds of weather and track conditions.

The most popular go cart racing tires are called slick tires, or slicks. Slicks are best suited for dry weather. They are soft tires which are the most advanced in any motor sport. In fact, slicks are the development ground for most Formula One races.

Races can still take place in the rain, and go cart racing tires must be built even for watery, slippery tracks. Smaller, more compact rain tires are most suited for rainy weather.

Go cart racing tires need not always be spick, span, and brand new. Worn, wet tires can cling best to low traction tracks, what with their well embedded scratches and ruts. Such go cart racing tires, sometimes known as intermediates, are well suited to damp conditions, where tracks can alternate between extreme friction and extreme slipping.

Ice will not stop go cart racers, and go cart racing tires can also be tailored for crisp, frosty conditions. These spiked go cart racing tires can cut through ice and increase a go carts' traction, allowing it to run at top speeds without losing grip on the tracks and spinning out of control.

More than the go cart racing tires' weather-proofing are the materials used for their upkeep. Go cart racing tires have to carry a vehicle through rough paths and around sharp corners, and they must be conditioned to have an increased grip on the track they are traveling on. Although banned by most racing organizations, special solvents can sometimes be applied to go cart racing tires to increase and maintain traction.

Go cart racing is made all the more fun by go cart assembly – and proper assembly is determined by selecting the appropriate go cart racing tires, chassis, frame, and engine. When assembling your go cart, be on the lookout for go cart racing tires which are adaptable to any weather condition. They may be expensive, but they can save you money if you are looking to assemble a sturdy, durable go cart.

If you want to save money and build a small, simple cart, second hand go cart racing tires, as well as second hand go carts, are also available. Just be sure to look for relatively new gear. An important factor when considering go cart racing tires is the axle size. Old carts will have 25, 28, of 35 mm axles. Go carts outfitted with tires such as Chen Shin or Bridgestone are probably four or more years old. Other obsolete tires include Maxxis slick or wet tires, and Vega slick tires. They may be good for damp tracks, but you may not find new versions if you are seeking replacements.

Be that as it may, not all old carts are bad carts. Old tires can be outfitted with wet weather rims, to protect them from rain; spare rims to keep slicks well maintained; and a trolley or spare sprockets to keep your go cart up and running. Select the best package that will fit your budget.

However which way you decide, whether you build your go cart or buy an old one, they key is to have the best equipment for your go cart racing needs.

Americans have found joy and fulfillment in planning and making their go-carts. It is an experience usually shared by parents and their children which makes their relationship stronger and helps them achieve a sense of accomplishment.

There are many plans for go-cart making that are available in bookstores and the Internet. Typically, these contain pictures and detail out step-by-step the materials, procedures and planning involved in making go-carts. It usually has the following information:

1. The materials to use. A go-cart making plan usually specifies the materials that will be needed. One of these would be light frames that are strong. These frames are either round/square or both. An eighth of an inch tubing would be better to ensure that the go-cart lasts longer.

Another material would be angle iron. This should be 1"x1/8". Other materials that are included in go-cart making plans would be parts that can be found in lawn equipment. Such materials include steering wheels, gas tanks, rear axe parts, tie rod ends, pulleys, wheels & tires, variable clutches and others.

2. Designing the Go-cart. Take everything into consideration when designing your frame. This is the foundation of your go-cart so any mistakes that you make will create more problems.

Go-cart making plans usually suggest that the frames be initially marked on the driveway according to the shape and size you want and by considering how comfortable your legs will be. Record these dimensions based on your size for your customized go-cart plan. You can also combine ideas in planning and making your go-cart from several go-cart design plans in order to come up with the best design that you think.

3. Creating the seat. After making the basic frame of your go-cart, you can start framing the seat area followed by cutting the wood to create the base and backrest. Make the edges smoother by using a sander.

Put in foams and other upholstery after the frame has been welded. As a tip, try looking for go-cart making plans that include adjustable seat designs that could be made separate from the frame.

4. Designing the go-cart's steering wheel. The steering wheel is attached at the steering rod and finishes at the Pitman arm. The tie rods will be pushed by this arm in any direction and these tie rods will push the wheel spindle arms to turn the wheels.

Any go-cart making plan will emphasize the importance of making sure that nuts and bolts are sized properly and are secured and that there is safe steering.

5. Spindles and axles. The next step in planning a go-cart plan is to consider the spindles where the wheels are to attached. The front wheels usually have 4-inch long spindles but it is still important to check the specific wheel you will need.

There are many go-cart making plans out there that will give you ideas on how to choose the bolts and bearing that you can use. Others even teach you how to make your go-cart's own spindles. But one important thing you should know is to avoid buying zinc plated bolts because zinc exposure is dangerous. Try using galvanized bolts, instead.

6. Go-cart's engine. Most plans for go-cart making recommend the use of horizontal engines. Lawn mowers have vertical shaft which would require a lot of work to convert it into a horizontal engines. Conversion is complicated and these aren't strong enough to be used as go-cart engines. In order to avoid the extra work, use the 5-8 HP horizontal motor usually found in tillers.

7. Attaching the brakes and sprockets. These devices are found in the final phases of go-cart making plans. There are many types of brakes that you can choose from. There are scrub brakes, step up, expanding drum brake and disk brakes. The latter is usually considered the best brake according to most go-cart making plans but the brakes for your motor will still depend on what you are most comfortable in using.

And just like brakes, there are many kinds and brands of sprockets. Before deciding on what sprocket to use, you also have to decide on the type of chain you will use.

Important Information:
When going about making your go-cart plans especially those that are custom built with your children, always regard safety first. Aside from this, also take into account that the welding and the design of your go-cart will determine your safety. Such that, it is paramount that if you are not a good welder, ask an accomplished welder to help you with the job of bending and attaching the rods, pipes and tubes or have your work inspected.

Aside from avoiding the use of zinc-plated bolts, be also wary of using drive chains that are not shrouded because hair and loose clothing can be caught which might cause rollovers and gas leakouts.

The engine of a go-cart for racing or for fun is comprised of many parts. These include brake parts, chain & links, throttle parts, sprockets, torque converters, centrifugal clutches and other parts.

In this article, we will be discussing tips and techniques on taking care of your racing go-cart's engine parts specifically on its chain and spark plugs. We will also include in the discussion, the proper ways of lubricating the engine.

First of all, a go-cart owner should have the proper tools in maintaining his go-cart. An inventory of his tools should include the following:

* a wrench for spark plugs
* an oil squirt can with spout
* a clean gas can. A small, plastic can would be preferable.
* a chain breaker tool
* some connecting links
* extra chains
* a set of standard tools
* low pressure tire gauge

Maintaining Chains:
Chains are also called rollers that are part of engines in go cart racing. When the racing go-cart's engine is running, its chains rub back and forth with each other. To maintain these from wearing off, here are some tips we can do:

- Lubrication must be applied along each side link of the chain. This lube should be allowed to stay on the chains for about 8 to 10 minutes to allow it to penetrate and evaporate before starting the racing go-cart's engines. Otherwise, the centrifugal force will sling it away. Aside from this, the main drive sprocket and the clutch sprocket should be aligned perfectly so as not to rub with the side links. The horsepower of the engine of the racing go-cart will be absorbed if rubbing occurs.

- When stretched chains (which always occurs over time) are tightened, always make sure that the tension in the chain is the proper and desired chain tension for the go-cart's race engine. A tight chain does not only put friction on the roller bearing and the bushing but it can also make the cart move in neutral position even without a driver steering it.

- When installing a new or sprocket or clutch in the engine of your racing go-cart, install a new chain unless this is very new. Do not cut new chains into very short ones. Removing links can always be done but you cannot attach more than half a link.

- Always determine first pitch size of the chain your machine needs. These are sometimes stamped on the chain. Typical American-made go cart engines for races and for fun have chain sizes as #35, #40, #41, and #42 chain.

Tips for Maintaining Spark Plugs:

- Always follow your go-cart racing engine's manual when removing, inspecting and adjusting spark plugs. The electrodes are supposed to be free of carbon and excess oil in order for the go-cart's racing engine to perform well during racing.

- Always see to it that the gap between the electrodes – also called the spark plug gap – is .030 inches. Measure this with a wire feeler gauge.

- Coat the threads where the spark plug will be attached with anti-sieze compound or graphite grease before installing the racing go-cart's engine. This will make the plug easier to remove during inspections.

- Always replace a go-cart's racing engine's spark plug at least once a year. This ensures engine performance in optimum level and easy engine starting.

Guidelines in Engine Lubrication:

Oil change in the crankcase must be done 2 hours after operating your racing go-cart's engine. And this should happen 25 hours after each use. This is done to ensure that the engine's internal parts are properly lubricated and to avoid expensive repairs brought about by extreme engine wear.

Before we proceed, always remember that the spark plug wire should be disconnected and should not be able to make any contact with the spark plug before the change oil procedure.

1. The first step is to take out the oil fill plug which is located at the engine base's rear side. Tip the go-cart slightly backward, blocking the front end. The drained oil should be placed in a suitable container.

2. Next, put back the oil fill plug and tighten this securely. Put the go-cart's engine back into a level position and refill the oil.

3. Before using the go-cart, check its oil level. Doing this only takes a few seconds.

Instructions in Storing Go-carts When Not in Use

1. Place the go-cart in the outdoors.

2. By allowing the go-cart's race engine to run, drain the carburetor and the fuel tank. Excess fuel can be drained by using a suction or by using clean rags and towels to absorb the oil.

3. Remove the spark plug of the racing go-cart's engine and pour an ounce of clean lube through the cylinder's spark plug hole. Slowly crank the engine of the go-cart in order to spread the oil and put the spark plug back again.

4. A go-cart's race engine will be affected when starting and performing when old stored gasoline will be used so do not store gasoline over a season.

5. More importantly, never store fuel and gasoline in storage and buildings that have open flame.

Go cart racing, or karting, as sports enthusiasts spell it, is a motor sport in which light weight, compact, but speedy four wheel vehicles rush almost effortlessly through tracks. Building a go cart is an art in itself, and thus requires racing go cart plans that contain not only the make up of a go cart, but details on a race as well.

Racing go cart plans are the first step to not only building a cart, but winning a race. In fact, karting is considered a low cost and safe way to introduce drivers to motor racing, and is the first step in a serious racer's career. Because go carts are lightweight, they are easily subject to stresses, and are in danger of spinning out of control, turning over, or even catching fire at any time. Training in karting can thus improve a racer's reflexes, car control, and decision making skills.

And because racers sometimes build their own go carts, drawing up racing go cart plans can introduce drivers to the physics and science underlying racing. These include the way tires are positioned, how stiff chassis are constructed, the way they are designed, and the choice of fuel and gears in building a go cart.

Racing go cart plans outline how a cart is built, how it should be maintained, and what kinds of races it can run through.

The most important part of a racing cart is its chassis, or frame. Racing go cart plans will usually contain details on how flexible a chassis is. In general, go cart racers prefer stiff chassis during dry conditions, and flexible ones in wet or low traction conditions. Low horsepower engines also run best on hard chassis, while high horsepower ones need more flexible fames.

The axels, pins, and bearings will hold the tires to the chassis. Racing go cart plans will contain details on the best tires as well. Since karting happens at any time of the year, tires should be well adapted to all weather conditions. Slick tires are designed for dry weather. The small, compact rain tires adhere well to slippery tracks, and are best suited for wet weather. Intermediates or worn tires have the best traction, and are usually employed during damp conditions. Ice tires are spiked, allowing go carts to speed through frost.

Together, the chassis and wheels must not only fit all weather conditions, but all track materials as well. If racing go cart plans show a go cart with a wide front but narrow back, the go cart racing track will be made of the more stable concrete or asphalt. However, if the racing go cart plans should show a go cart with a narrow front but wide back, the go cart racing track will made of dirt. Once go carts negotiate turns on a dirt road, they are in danger of turning over, since the flying dirt can produce enough force to keep the go cart from running again.

Also in the racing go cart plans are the engine and fuel tank, which, as with all materials in the go cart, should be light enough to avoid wind drag, but heavy enough to keep the go cart's traction. Go cart engines are either 2-stroke or 4-stroke, and can run on a variety of fuels, including petrol, gasoline, diesel, methanol, pressurized gas, and batteries.

Likewise important in racing go cart plans are the placement of the driver's seat, the clutch, the break, and the accelerator. A light, fast go cart will go nowhere if its driver is not comfortable enough with the cart itself.

Racing go cart plans will also be for nothing if there are no sufficient details on the race and race track. Go cart racing can either be a sprint or endurance race. A series of short, 15 minute long races make up the sprint, and speed and successful passing are the name of the game. Endurance races take much longer, and can last anywhere from 30 minutes, to over a day. In any case, racing go cart plans will also contain details on how the cart should be maintained through the neck breaking speeds of sprints, which can cause considerable wear and tear for the small, light cart; or the long hours of endurance races, which can tax on a cart's engine.

The best racing go cart plans will contain all the details about a cart and the race it should run, but still leave room for improvement and innovation. It's science that brings racing go cart plans to life, but it's also imagination that covers all bases and anticipates changes even the plans can't foresee. In any case, make the plans, and enjoy the ride, because go carting is all about originality in the spirit of fun.

There are several considerations you have to take into account when dealing with tires for go-cart racing. In this article, we will be discussing how to measure the tires for your racing go-carts for you to be able to order and buy the proper ones when you need new ones. And aside from this, we will also be discussing what you need to know as precautionary measures when installing these new tires to your racing go-cart.

First of all, we have to know how to interpret the measurements of the tires by breaking these down. The first one, which will be illustrated by the example: "4.5 – 3.50 x 5" can be broken down such that:

-> '4.5' – the first number – represents, in inches, a racing go-cart tire's maximum width. This is measured across a sidewall to the sidewall opposite to it.

-> '3.50' – the second number – represents the size of the tread, also in inches

-> '5' – the last number – measured in inches and represents the inside diameter of the racing go-cart's tire. This is also the size of where the tire sits on the rim (called the bead area).

Another way to measure the tire of a go-cart for racing which will be exemplified by '14 -.600 x 6' can be broken down as such:

-> '15' – the first number – is the tire's maximum height measured from top to bottom. This is measured in inches.

-> '6.00' – the second number – width of the go-cart's race tire in inches measured from a sidewall across its opposite sidewall.

-> '6' – the last number is the measured bead area in inches.

Now that you know how to interpret a racing go-cart's tire measurements, we can now start determining your racing go-cart's tire measurements. There are 4 ways to be able to do these.

- The first one is to check the size of your old tire. As what we have learned earlier, the last number represents the bead are and the inside diameter of the tire. Please take note that there are slight differences in actual measurements for each brand of tires for go-cart racing. Avoid mixing the tire brands on the tire's front and sides and the rear sides of the go-cart.

- Another way, especially for cases when you have the wheel but no tire available, is to measure the bead area of the wheel where the tire will seat. If the measurement is 5 inches then it follows that the go-cart's racing tires should measure 5 inches. Take note, however that the bead area is not measured from the outside edge diameter to the edge of the opposite outside.

- If the old tire does not have its measurement indicated, then measure the bead area of your go-cart's wheel.

- In cases where you can't measure the bead area of a wheel, you can get your go- cart's race tires by measuring the wheel's outside diameter and subtracting 1 inch from it. Such that if you were able to get 5 inches as the rim's outside diameter, subtract 1 inch from this and you get 4" for the bead area which will make a 4 inched go-cart racing tire fit.

Now that you know how to measure your racing go-cart's tires and how to interpret the way tire measurements are represented, let us discuss some precautions you have to observe when installing and mounting new race tires for your go-carts.

1. Before mounting the new race tires of your go-cart, lubricate the tire beads. You can do this by using tire lubricants that are industry-approved or soap solutions.

2. In-line gauges with regulated air pressure and extension hoses should be used during the process of mounting the race tires of the go-cart.

3. When inflating, do not expose any part of your body and stand back from the racing go-cart's tires or wheels.

4. Always use a safety cage or safety glasses and other restraining devices while working.

5. When seating the racing go-cart's tire, NEVER pry against the rims of the wheel be this made of aluminum, plastic or nylon.
6. When seating tires on two-piece wheels, NEVER exceed the indicated PSI of the racing go-cart's tire. If there are difficulties in seating the tire, deflate it completely, disassemble it and lubricate the tire beads again.

As an important warning in mounting the tires of racing go-carts: always make sure that you follow instructions and that beads are seated properly. Air pressure exceeding 25 PSI does not only cause the breakage of the bead but it can also cause the assembly to burst and blow up with a force strong enough to produce serious and fatal injuries.

Always make sure that the rims are cleaned and lubricated well including the racing go-cart's tires. Make sure also that the beads are placed on the center. Follow the vehicle's manufacturer's recommendations on inflating the tires and not the markings on the tire.

Go cart racing is a motor sport for small, lightweight, four wheel vehicles. These go carts, or karts, as enthusiasts call their prized cars, can run up to over a hundred kilometers per hour. Depending on their design, go carts can be built to withstand rain, snow, ice, heat, and the grueling, punishing acceleration, wind, and speed characteristic of the race track.

Go cart building is also as popular as the racing itself, and is a sport all its own. Go carts must be light, and yet stable; fast, and yet able to cling to the tracks through which they travel. Building a go cart, therefore, requires the best materials for the best go cart. One of these materials is the racing go cart chassis.

A racing go cart chassis forms the underbelly of the go cart, and will include the engine, clutch, frame, and tires. All of these have to be the best quality, but they all have to be compatible and work together to produce a go cart that moves fast and furious through any track in any weather.

The engine of a racing go cart chassis usually runs on petrol, gasoline, pressurized gas, or methanol. Engines nowadays can even run on batteries! Whatever the case, engines must be lightweight and produce the most power for the least amount of fuel consumed. Also fitted into the racing go cart chassis is the clutch, which can be cooled through a constant supply of oil, or dry and exposed to the air. Whatever the case, both the clutch and engine must be constantly maintained, and should be oiled after each use.

The tires are another important feature of the go cart chassis. They should be able to carry the go cart fast through the track, but possess good traction, so that they hold on well to the road and keep the go cart from spinning or careening out of control. The tires, therefore, should be built for all types of weather, and all types of racing conditions.

A racing go cart chassis is, essentially, a frame which holds all the parts of a go cart together. It may weigh anywhere between 200 to 300 pounds (100 to 150 kilograms) and it will determine how fast and where a go cart can run. A racing go cart chassis is built in the shape of a tube, and typically consists of steel, with tubes of differing diameters and grades to provide the frame with flexibility.

Racing go cart chassis can be classified on their overall structure. Open carts have no cage surrounding the driver, while caged carts do. An open racing go cart chassis offers the simplicity and light weight which go cart racers are after, but since it lacks the weight to keep a go cart on the ground, it can sometimes spin out of control, or be subjected to the tearing forces of wind drag.

A racing go cart chassis also has no suspension and differential. This means that the go cart can easily undergo wear and tear when speeding through turns. What carries a go cart through these turns is a flexible chassis, or one that can "go with the flow." During dry conditions, go cart racers prefer a stiffer racing go cart chassis with less flexibility. In damp or low traction conditions, a flexible racing go cart chassis is better. Chassis flexibility, moreover, depends on the engine in use. Low power engines need hard frames, while higher horsepower engines need more flexible ones.

When choosing your racing go cart chassis, consider the tracks you will be racing on. A go cart must be able to run through asphalt, concrete, or dirt, and a racing go cart chassis should be able withstand and flex with all the twists and turns of a race track built with any of these materials. Dirt track chassis should have a short front rail and a long back rail to minimize wind drag, since dirt can place a lot of stress on front rails. Long back rails also lend stability to a go cart when it makes a turn. When riding on stable concrete and asphalt, however, the opposite is true: racing go cart chassis should have long front rails and short back rails

As a rule, the more difficult the twists and turns on the tracks, the more flexible a racing go cart chassis should be. So choose the right tires, engine, clutch, and frame, and you'll be speeding down the tracks and to the finish in no time!

Go Cart Racing – or Karting, as it is called by enthusiasts of the sport – is a motor sport driven by the excitement of racing small four-wheeled vehicles called go carts. Go Cart Racing has gained popularity for hobbyists and professional racers, since building go-carts is relatively easy.

The most important part of a go-cart is its engine. Go cart racing engines are small, to not only fit with the frame of the small cart, but to minimize wind drag and fuel consumption as well. With their small size, go cart racing engines can take their carts to speeds as high as 160 miles per hour (260 kilometers per hour).

Go cart racing engines can run on most fuels, including gasoline, methanol, pressurized gas, and even cart-mounted batteries. They can even come from a wide variety of machines. These include motorcycles, lawnmowers, chainsaws, generators, mopeds, water pumps, and even cars! The engines that drive these machines can be adopted as Go cart racing engines with the proper gears and clutch installed.

Go cart racing engines can be classified into two-stroke and four-stroke. Two-stroke engines are power efficient and strong, and can allow go carts to accelerate quickly. They, however, burn more petrol, and as a result have bad exhaust emissions. Four-stroke engines, on the other hand, do not run as fast as two-stroke engines, but have better gas mileage.

Engines have to be cooled through the duration of the race to keep them from breaking down. Go cart racing engines can be classified into those which are air-cooled or water-cooled. Air cooled go cart racing engines are cooled by the wind that flows around the engine when the vehicle moves at its top speed. They are light, making them the best engines for go cart racing; but unlike water-cooled engines, cannot be run for long periods while a go cart is idle.

Go cart racing engines can also be classified by ignition, or how they are started. Points ignition engines start up when a set of breakers in the engine produces a spark that ignites the fuel. Electronic ignition engines produce a spark via an alternator. Kick start engines start up with a kick start pedal; electrical starts go up and running with a switch; while pull starts set the go cart off with a pull on a cord, much like how lawnmowers are started up.

Go cart racing engines run on two main types of fuel. Petrol, whether pure, or mixed leaded and unleaded, has a high octane rating and can give go cart racing engines more power. Diesel engines do not require spark plugs, but need more powerful batteries to keep the go cart running.

As important as go cart racing engines are clutches. These are sold and installed separately, and like the engine, must be oiled and maintained after each use. Dry clutches are not immersed in any cooling liquid, while wet clutches are continuously cooled in oil. Other types include racing clutches, manual clutches, automatic clutches, centrifical clutches, and belt and tension clutches.

Go cart racing engines have to run fast and furious, but they are not built for long-term durability. Go cart enthusiasts thus have ratings systems by which to judge which engines will best withstand what races.

The exact power that go cart racing engines can produce is measured by horsepower, which is the amount of energy required to lift 550 pounds up one foot in one second. The greater the horsepower, the more powerful go cart racing engines are, and the faster the go cart can go.

Brake horsepower is perhaps a more accurate measure of a go cart's potential speed, and is the combined power of the engine, clutch, and gearbox.

Another important factor in carting is RPM, or revolutions per minute. The greater the value, the greater the acceleration of the go cart.

Go cart racing engines have to carry their carts through sharp turns in most go cart races. The amount of turning force of the engine is its torque.

Other factors to consider when buying go cart racing engines are their cubic capacity, compression, and weight. Since go carts have to go fast, engines should be as light as possible, and produce as much power on a minimum fuel load.

One of the greatest fulfillments of go cart racers is to build their own go cart racing engines. However, if this may be too time consuming for you, you may purchase ready-to-use engines. Just make sure that they are legal and relatively new, with hydraulic, and not mechanical brakes. Good engines make the race worth driving, and the go cart worth assembling. Happy go cart building!

Clueless with chassis and motors but would like to purchase a racing go cart chassis? If you don't have any problem with funds, surely buying any new racing go cart chassis from any of the leading go cart manufacturers will do. But if you are quite short in the budget, here some very indispensable tips for you to get maximum value for your money, either if you're planning to buy a cart for resale or simply for your own personal use.

1. Looks don't have to be deceiving with racing go cart chassis.

The way a cart appears should give you an idea of its condition. This is because you can know a lot how well or bad a racing go cart has been treated by its appearance at first glance. A rusty axel will make you see how worn-out it has become. All the components adjoined to it should be inspected. The tires should spin easily and the bearings should roll free. Any noise while rolling the bearings necessitates thinking twice on buying the go cart.

The brakes need a lot of attention too. Check if there's any leaking part in the system. The brake pedal must be solid when pushed down. See that the caliper's sides are both working well.

With the steering, the bolts should give it away. Any loose bolts will wear cause the quick wearing out of any part.

Lastly, it should help if you lift the racing go cart up and check its underside if it has too many gouges and scratches in the frame. If you find too many damage such as dings and scratches, the cart has already went through a lot racing. But if it's a second-hand go cart but it only has a few scratches, either it was maintained well by a very good driver, it has been remedied by a very good painter, or you found one rare find of a racing go cart chassis. And, that only means one thing — you should put it in your list of choices of which racing go cart chassis to buy.

2. In-depth inspection counts. A LOT.

With useds racing go cart chassis, it's important that you prepare yourself on having the motor gone through. But if it is a one trusty cart seller that your dealing with, who will most likely assure you that the racing go cart chassis is ready to be raced. A test ride will further prove that all the hints that you have to buy a certain go cart or not are true.

3. The seller will tell.

If the racing go cart chassis seller had a hard time starting it, better think twice, even thrice because it's a warning sign that you might have the same problem as well when you bring the go cart home. One trustworthy teller will not smooth talk you into buying one that you will not really have good use of. A bit background check through asking some friends who are or are past clients of your racing go cart chassis seller will reveal a lot of indispensable info that you would surely benefit from.

4. Extra baggage or extra benefits – which do you prefer?

A go cart that has added features can either be a gift or plain excess baggage. Just make sure that you will be really needing those products or extra parts that come with your racing go cart chassis. The usual essentials include a go cart stand, useable gears, starter and wheels. Those junk-worthy files are worn out gears, damaged sidewall tires, and old chains. These will only take up precious space in your garage so you better dump them as soon as possible.

5. If the price is right…

The price tag will either give you a go or halt you from getting that racing go cart chassis home with you. Research on the current price offers of second-hand go carts.
Half of the new price for well-maintained go carts and parts is a good bargain. However, some used racing go cart chassis could cost just as much as the new ones. It really depends on the condition of the go cart and your negotiating skills (if you're allowed to use it) whether you'd be able to get the best deal or not.

6. Online transactions schmasions.

If you'd rather purchase a racing go cart chassis online, demand for close up pictures of the cart in all angles as much as possible. Take a really good look at the components and the frame. Online transactions need a lot of precaution since there a lot of instances when sellers are just actually rippers off.

7. Call a friend. A go cart expert friend.

It surely won't hurt to make a trusted friend who's quite adept with racing go cart chassis to tag along when you're taking a look-see of the go carts. But he or she should not pressure you into buying what your gutfeel thinks is a bad cart.

To build something you have to start from scratch. The pyramids had to be constructed brick by brick. The airplane didn't spur from the Wright Brothers' imagination through the magic of built in wings. Those wings had to be created by hand through hard work and labor. So it is no wonder that these wonderful racing machines called go carts also had to start somewhere.

Go cart racing parts in essential to building a go cart. Without these necessary tools the sport of go cart racing would be unheard of. Art Ingels would never have been able to invent the go cart without the aid of go cart racing parts; fundamentally they were the skeleton frame of this new racing vehicle that would become the go cart.

If you are a veteran of the sport of go cart racing then you should be familiar with go cart racing parts. Whether you have built your very own go cart, or just have replaced old, rusty go cart racing parts of your existing go cart; then you should have by now a clear understanding of how important these things are. But to the neophyte who is just now discovering the joy of go cart racing, the concept of go cart racing parts might still be confusing.

If you are thinking of assembling your own go cart then you need to get yourself a go cart kit. A go cart kit is basically a do-it-yourself go cart pack that contains all the go cart racing parts that you need in order to assemble you own racing vehicle. Just follow the instructions and you should be able to create you own go cart in no time.

If you are just starting out, it would be advisable to purchase a beginner's kit. Later on you can upgrade your go cart as you become more familiar with the construction of your racing vehicle; you can even set it to your own specification. Go cart kits usually cost anywhere from $1000 onwards.

It would be helpful to know that some kits carry just the basic go cart racing parts that you need; the rest you will need to scrounge for elsewhere. But really this is part of the fun of assembling your dream machine. Finding just the right go cart racing parts that would complete your creation.

Go cart racing parts can be purchased on line. Perfect for those who are upgrading their go carts or replacing old go cart racing parts. Look for a site that has an extensive go cart racing parts catalog; this way you'd have a range of products to choose from. Always buy from reliable brands, preferably the ones that you have tried and tested, or has a reputation for excellent standards. Quality is important, this adds to your safety.

It is always best to purchase new go cart racing parts. You don't want to buy go cart racing parts that somebody else has found worthless and has disposed of. This might create a problem for you in the future.

Understand that building a go cart is very time consuming, and some people even acquire the aid of a mechanic to assemble those complex go cart kits. So this is an activity usually taken up by hobbyists.

Do research ahead of time before you go out and buy your go cart kit. This way, you get your money's worth and get exactly the go cart kit that is right for you.

If you are thinking of buying a new or a used ready made go cart, check first if the go cart racing parts for this particular racing vehicle is readily available; in case you might have to replace certain go cart racing parts, or you decide to upgrade in the future. Also, check how costly those spare parts are just to be sure everything fits into your budgets.

The task of building your very own go cart may seem arduous at first, but once you get the hang of it, it would all become easy. And the rewards of watching the fruit of your labor come to life in the form of a dream machine is such an excellent treat that you would soon forget all the labor and hard work that went into making it. With the help of go cart racing parts, this achievement could be yours.
