Mountain Biking, Beginners Basics
So, you are all set to get into one of the best sports that will give you a feel of the great outdoors? Yes, only mountain biking can give you that high! There are few tips which will help you go a long way if you plan and pace your entry into this sport.
The Bike
The most important thing that you need to get into mountain biking is of course the bike. Go for a basic bike that will help you get started on flat amateur tracks. Of course, if you have a higher budget and want to go for advanced tracks, it is up to you.
A Helmet
Helmet is the second most important thing after a bike in mountain biking. Always remember one thing that if you tumble and hit the ground, this one piece of equipment would save your life. So, invest a few bucks more if required but get the best possible helmet for yourself.
Gloves
It is recommended to use gloves as they give you a better grip and also protect your hands in case you fall off.
Other Gears
The other gears that are recommended for beginners are a good pair of Lycra shorts and a goggle (protects your eyes from dust and insects). Always carry a small safety kit, a water bottle, and some food to eat. Remember, you will find many other equipments and accessories that might not actually be useful or important for you. Hence, always seek expert advice while purchasing gear. If there is an expert in the shop, he/she might be a useful link for you. A repair kit is also extremely important. Imagine if you get a flat, miles away from help and you do not have the necessary tools to change it. Seems like a nightmare. Doesn't it?
How to Upgrade Your Skills
You will require some basic skills like endurance, stamina and balance. Always keep your ears open for expert advice. You can avoid the mistakes that others might have committed. A very important aspect of mountain biking is pedaling, so keep practicing. If you practice enough, you will soon find it easy to take your foot off and on the pedal.
Practice changing gears on a road near your house, which has a steep slope. This should come as second nature to you. Braking is again, very important. Use front brake more often. Also, try a series of small micro braking technique to get a good feel of it.
Keep these tips in mind while mountain biking and have a safe trip.
