The game paintball can either be played indoors or outdoors. Some paintball players like to play scenario games some like to play on tournaments. A lot of commercial paintball fields features fast paced indoor game plays that sometimes has lots of rooms for a player to explore.

There are many kinds of outdoor paintball fields. These types of paintball fields are usually located on a wooden area. Some outdoor paintball fields even have special props (like fake buildings, bunkers, castles, towers, old cars, etc.) to simulate an urban warfare scenario. A "Woodsball" type of paintball game for most paintball players is the most authentic form of the game paintball. When out on the woods, paintball players get to know the feel of a jungle warfare kind of game. When playing on a wooden paintball field, you need to have lots and lots of jungle skills. Stealth is the key with these types of paintball fields. On the other hand, team work and knowing when to take cover or fire is also important when playing on a wooded paintball field. Another type of paintball field is the scenario field. Most scenario plays are played on commercial establishments or commercial paintball facilities. The most common types of scenario plays are the urban assault paintball fields. Urban assault fields are composed of fake buildings (most of the time multi story buildings) with windows for sniping, cars for dodging paintballs, and lots of urban objects. Scenario plays are fast paced and is filled with action. This is why most paintball players like to play this kind of paintball field rather than wooded paintball fields.

Speed ball paintball fields are fields that have lots of bunkers scattered across the whole playing area. Most of these types of paintball fields have a very large area though some are small. Small speedball fields are fun and exciting to play because the bunkers are closely grouped together and the players engage in firefight from the commencement to the end of the game. Playing on this kind of paintball field requires lots of awareness of your surroundings. Bunkers are strategically placed so that it could not give the player complete coverage. It may protect the player from one angle but the player is exposed on another angle.
